Brad Bird's futuristic flick, Tomorrowland, was good and I liked the message it presented. That's about it.
The film follows Casey Newton (Britt Robertson), a teen with a passion for scientific discovery, and a once boy genius Frank Walker (George Clooney) on their journey to uncover secrets of a world between time and space that is lodged in their memories. The message translated in Tomorrowland is this: dreams come true and those who dream make a difference in the world. I loved that! What I didn't like so much was the main plot point - the Earth is in trouble. I mean, come on, as if there needed to be yet another film about that.
Tomorrowland's ending was strange to me. There were several parts of the film that I didn't connect with or didn't get altogether, leaving me wanting an explanation. When I go to the movie theater, I like to be completely enveloped in the film, not thinking about anything else. I found myself being distracted way too many times during Tomorrowland. It's a good film with a great message, but it was a bit confusing at times - and long. I'll quote a reviewer on IMDb who put it best, the film was "too silly to be deep and too complicated to be involving."
P.S. I will say Britt Robertson is such an underrated actress. She's great in Tomorrowland, it's too bad the film itself didn't live up to the same standard.
I Give It A: C+
